BWC Tour in Virginia |
Monday, August 18, 2025 The BWC Virginia Tour began as Julie Bond met with Richard Golinowski, Vice President and Manager of BWC member Dulles Airport, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority along with the team from Dulles Area Transportation Association (DATA), Luke Frazza, Terri Lamb, and Olga Viana. Connected to the region by the Silverline Metro, Dulles Airport is one of the largest airports in the region and offers commuter programs to meet the needs of their employees and visitors. Mr. Golinowski was a guest speaker during the recent BWC webinar, “The 2025 BWC List Announcement.”

Working with Wells + Associates to manage their commuter programs, MITRE is one of the largest employers in the region and offers commuter transit benefits, employee shuttles, bike and walking programs, as well as many more transportation options for their employees. We toured their beautiful space with Chris Boynton at MITRE and Linsey Burch with Wells + Associates. |
Just two miles away in Tysons, Ms. Bond visited The Boro, a dynamic, self-sustaining urban district, and a BWC Best Site in Fairfax County. Linsey Burch at Wells + Associates provided a tour of this mixed-use development that is home to residential, hospitality, retail, entertainment, open parks, and a large mix of the major employers in the region. | Julie Bond and Linsey Burch at The Boro |
Later, Ms. Bond visited Carlyle Council, a BWC Best Site in Alexandria, including a walking tour of the interconnected transit and mobility options for residents, employers, and employees with Morgan Babcock, Council Manager and Josh Etim and Hamzat Sani from GO Alex. | While visiting the very intentionally designed American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) headquarters building in Alexandria, representatives from APTA shared their movement philosophy, demonstrating the benefits for their employees with a bikeshare and repair station, direct proximity to Metro and transit, their incredible rooftop gardens, and the artwork throughout the building, designed to inspire movement. |
Tuesday, August 19, 2025 The second day of the Virginia Tour started at Fairfax County Commuter Services (FCCS) with the opportunity to connect with BWC Partner organizations in that region, including FCCS staff, Loudoun County, the City of Alexandria’s GO Alex program, Potomac Rappahannock Transportation Commission(PRTC)/OmniRide, Dulles Area Transportation Association (DATA), goDCgo, Wells + Associates, and Gorove Slade. |

During the visit, Anna Nissinen with the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority and Gabe Ortiz from Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) welcomed our group and talked about how BWC can support the important work of providing transportation options in Northern Virginia. |

Next, Ms. Bond visited Quantum Park, Loudoun County’s first BWC Best Site, with Yvette Donnelly, Senior Property Manager at Quantum Park and Judy Galen and Kendall Tiffany from Loudun County Transit. Working with Loudoun County Transit, Quantum Park established bus service on site, as well as Metro shuttles, and has paths in the building that encourages employees to walk and move in this beautiful space. Judy and Kendall also showed Ms. Bond the new Ashburn Metro station, directly connected to another BWC Best Site, One Loudoun. The new Silverline Metro extended commute options for people in Loudoun County almost two years ago. Making her way to Virginia’s largest county, Fairfax County, Ms. Bond took a tour of Inova Fairfax Hospital campus with Chip Goyette, Inova Sustainability Director. Inova made a strong commitment to ensure their employees, patients, and visitors have transit options and access. Lastly, Ms. Bond visited BWC member George Mason University with Josh Cantor and Kovit Kong from the George Mason University Parking and Transportation Department and toured the Sandy Creek Transit Center. With approximately 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students, George Mason University, a long-time BWC, is the largest public research university in the state. They offer a robust set of mobility options including bus service on campus, shuttles, EV charging, bike programs, ride share programs, commuter transit benefits, and much more. |

The third day of the BWC Virginia Tour included a key visit with Chris Arabia, Manager of Mobility Programs and Kathy Molin, Commuter Assistance Program Manager, at the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation to discuss how BWC can support the work of Commuter Assistance Programs in Virginia, as well as Michelle Peters, Deputy Director of Housing and Development for the City of Richmond. |

Thursday, August 21, 2025 The final day of the BWC Virginia helped bring many of our key stakeholders together for a discussion and an incredible luncheon. Ms. Bond met with stakeholders from Richmond’s RideFinders, Hampton Roads’ goCommute program, GWRide Connects from Fredericksburg, RideSolutions and Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission from Roanoke, Virginia Commonwealth University, Transportation Federal Credit Union, Michael Baker International, S.I.R., and Siddall Communications. |
Coldon Martin with S.I.R. presented a whitepaper on understanding the modern workforce, and the group shared important insights into how BWC can be instrumental in working with employers in Virginia. |
